10 new Deputy Lieutenants for Surrey
The Lord-Lieutenant has commissioned ten new Deputy Lieutenants (DLs) to the Surrey Lieutenancy, bringing the number of active DLs in the county to 46. Representing a broad range of cultural and social backgrounds, ethnic mix and gender, Surrey’s DLs are often well known for their work in the local community or nationally, or for their distinguished service in other fields. This could be through charitable or volunteering activities, public life or the uniformed services. The ten newly appointed are: Mrs Mary Creswell, promoter of the arts; Mrs Nicola Dawes, founder and general manager of Stripey Stork in Reigate; Mrs Neelam Devesher, Chairman of Surrey Minority Ethnic Forum (SMEF); The Very Reverend Dianna Gwilliams, Dean of Guildford Cathedral; Mrs Johanna (Joosje) Hamilton, lawyer and Vice Chair of the Surrey Branch of the CLA (Country Land & Business Association); Ms Charlotte Kneer, CEO of Reigate & Banstead Women’s Aid; Mr Steve Owen-Hughes MBE, Chief Fire Officer, Chairman of the Local Resilience Forum (LRF) and Director of Community Protection; Mrs Frances Rutter, CEO and Principal of Nescot College, Epsom and Ewell; Mr Giles Verity, Director of Stanhope-Seta, winner of three Queen’s Awards for Enterprise; and Sir Graham Wrigley KCMG, knighted for services to international development spanning 32 years.
