55 active volunteers of Swingbridge Community Boats receive the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service
The 55 active volunteers, aged 35-80, who crew, skipper and maintain the Swingbridge Community Boats (part of Surrey Care Trust) have received the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service 2018. This highlights the services they provide to support, mentor and train disadvantaged and vulnerable people, including offenders, through environmental work and training trips. The enthusiastic volunteers also run trips to make the River Wey accessible to people with limited mobility and special needs. Chair of the Swingbridge Steering Group, David Aldous received the award from Lord-Lieutenant, Michael More-Molyneux and acknowledged the dedication of everyone volunteering in the programme who, in many cases, have worked tirelessly to improve local people’s lives over many years.
