Runnymede Civic Awards
On Wednesday 22nd February, The Lord-Lieutenant attend the first Runnymede Civic Awards.
These awards were for people in the Borough who are making a difference, inspiring others, and showing real passion and talent. There were several awards across the categories of community, sports, and arts, and included specific awards for young people.
The Lord-Lieutenant presented the Sports Category Awards:
• Outstanding Sports Personality award – Hannah Russell OBE
• Young Sportsperson of the Year – Emily Bowles-Trow
• Coach of the Year – Kyle Francis, Runnymede Basketball Club
• Changing Lives Award – Nick & Carol Reeves, Addlestone Canoe Club – Changing Lives Award
• Club of the Year – Core Judo – Sports Club of the Year
Other winners included:
Egham Rangers – Service to the Community Award – Organisations
Dennis Brown – Service to the Community Award – Individual
Jenny Hill – Service to Runnymede Council Tenants
Oksana Belcher – Volunteer of the Year
HeBrews Café – Volunteer Group of the Year
David Playfoot – Young Volunteer of the Year
Rosie Williams-Taylor – Young Volunteer of the Year
Louise McGarr – Triumph over Adversity Award
Hare Hill Open Space Volunteers – Environmentalist & Climate Change Award
Mary Hammond – Community Writer of the Year
Alex Zhurba – Young Artist of the Year
Lorna Chinyani – Young Performer of the Year
Chertsey Pantomime – Arts Group of the Year
The Lord-Lieutenant said of the evening ‘I was so pleased to attend the Runnymede Civic Awards. This was the first such event that Runnymede have held. It was a highly successful evening celebrating the contributions of so many hard-working volunteers’
