Lieutenancy Appreciation Award
On Wednesday 7th June, Deputy Lieutenant Perdita Hunt presented Heather Kerswell with a Lieutenancy Appreciation Award.
Heather has given a great deal to Surrey. Her vision, commitment, energy, eye for detail, professionalism and dedication have been valued and appreciated by so many.
Heather is the founder of HK Associates and former chief executive of Mole Valley District Council. Heather was appointed as the first Independent Chair of the Surrey Hills AONB Board. She played a major part in supporting the development of the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty raising the profile of Surrey in a number of ways and leading the campaign to secure the review of the AONB boundary for the first time since it was designated in 1958. Heather recently hosted a major symposium at the University of Surrey [this is an annual event]. She plays an active role in the Arts & Crafts Movement in Surrey, undertaking research and visits as appropriate. She was a supporter of Whiteley Village. She served as a volunteer at Watts Gallery for a number of years. Heather was also formerly Chair of Godalming Choral Society in which she played a key role in the appointment of a new conductor and in placing the choir on firmer footing.
Rob Fairbanks, Director Surrey Hills National Landscape commented “I first knew Heather when she was a Strategic Director for Planning and Development at LB Greenwich when I was the Countryside Officer for London with the then Countryside Commission. Heather had a well-earned reputation as a big strategic thinker and chaired the London Planning Officers Advisory Committee.
Perdita Hunt thanked Heather for her huge contribution to the community of Surrey. The award was presented as part of the Board Meeting of Surrey AONB chaired by Kathy Atkinson.
