Lord-Lieutenant opens new facility at Merrist Wood

On 23 September the Lord-Lieutenant opened the Norman Shaw buildings at Merrist Wood a major redevelopment featuring state-of-the-art teaching buildings and a specialist greenhouse, enhancing facilities for land-based education.

The new buildings provide cutting-edge teaching and learning spaces, including:

  • Dedicated classrooms for equine science and arboriculture.
  • Commercial greenhouse for practical horticulture training.
  • Design, technology, and landscaping rooms.
  • Spacious external workshops capable of accommodating heavy machinery like tractors, quad bikes, and mowers.
  • Immersive digital technologies to support flexible and innovative teaching methods
    The redevelopment also includes a new glasshouse and support areas, along with a single-storey vocational/specialist teaching block,
