Happy Diwali and Bandi Chhor Divas

Happy Diwali and Bandi Chhor Divas

I send my warmest wishes to the Hindu, Jain and Sikh communities in Surrey, and to everyone celebrating.

These festivals of light, hope, freedom and renewal remind us of the importance of compassion, courage, justice and standing up for one another.

As Lord-Lieutenant of Surrey, I am proud of the diversity of our county and the strength we draw from our shared British civic values of fairness, respect, liberty, tolerance and mutual responsibility.

Our differences enrich us, but it is our shared commitment to these values that brings us together and helps us build communities where everyone feels they belong.

May this season inspire us all to bring more light, kindness and understanding into the lives of others.

Wishing you and your loved ones peace, happiness and prosperity.
