The current pandemic has highlighted just how widespread #MentalHealth issues are today , and as a result , it is being addressed on a much larger scale . but due to the stigma associated with mental illness , a lack of awareness and limited access to professional help mental health still remains a taboo subject .
One of the biggest obstacles for people struggling and / or recovering from mental ill- health is confronting the prejudice and negative attitudes held by society .
Oakleaf Enterprise have shared their latest blog on ‘Stigma surrounding mental health’ which provides some great tips on what we can do to help reduce stigma in our community including :
- educating ourselves and others
- seeing the person , not the condition
- connecting with others
- getting involved by starting the conversation or sharing your own experience
- knowing that there is help out there
