Reigate & Banstead ‘Junior Citizen’ event 2024
Wednesday, 7th February 2024 was Child Safety Medias VIP Showcase Day at the offices of Surrey County Council. Deputy Lieutenant, Mr Giles Verity represented The Lord Lieutenant at the event which was aimed at the education of young people on personal safety and awareness. A great credit to all those involved in the series of interactive sessions run over about two weeks in January and February.
Approximately 1,400 year 6 pupils attended the event, and guests’ observed pupils from Banstead Community School as they took part in a series of workshops delivered by Hope UK, Children and Family Health Surrey (School Nurses), Network Rail, British Transport Police, GTR/Southern, Macro and the Thames Basin Heaths Partnership.
Giles Verity DL, added:-
“On behalf of the Lord Lieutenant, I would like to express my thanks and appreciation for the work that CSM are doing in educating these young people in key safety aspects and preparing them for greater independence that secondary school offers. It was impressive to witness the sessions yesterday, which were presented incredibly well, at all times you could see that the group were captivated and engaged by the presentations given, they all clearly absorbed the information.”
