Surrey Community Action receive a Lieutenancy Certificate of Appreciation

On Tuesday 5th October on behalf of the Lieutenancy, Deputy Lieutenant Steve Owen-Hughes MBE met with Chief Executive Jason Gaskell and the team to present Surrey Community Action group with a Lieutenancy Certificate of Appreciation.

Surrey Community Action have over the last 18 months, helped hard to reach communities such as Gypsies and Travellers to ensure they are well supported. They work alongside GRT nurses to help encourage take up of the vaccine in local communities.  They support over 100 good neighbour schemes across Surrey supporting people who have been furloughed or suddenly made redundant, to signpost them to training or financial support.

They have supported hundreds of village hall and community building management committees to help them to understand the new restrictions and how to safely re-open their premises and access funding. They helped the Royal Surrey Foundation Trust earlier this year to ensure that spare vaccinations did not go to waste, they did this by putting out an emergency call to staff and volunteers from front-line voluntary sector organisations delivering health and care activities to vulnerable people across Guildford and Waverley.  They also helped to produce the Voluntary, Community and Faith Sector (VCFS) Impact and Resilience Report to help statutory partners and funders understand the pressures faced by voluntary and community organisations in Surrey.  This helped Surrey County Council to shape the Emergency Response fund for VCFS organisations and other partners for Covid-19 planning.
