Surrey Minority Ethnic Forum (SMEF) receives Queen’s Award

Volunteers from Surrey Minority Ethnic Forum (SMEF) have received the prestigious Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service 2021. SMEF is a race equalities charity set up to advocate for the needs and aspirations of Surrey’s 17% ethnic minority population. It brings together local minority community groups to raise their voices and strengthen their capacity so that they can provide better services to their members.

With a large team of volunteers, the group’s work enables communities to have the confidence to shape their destinies through a shared understanding of their values, rights, and responsibilities. They provide a neutral space where people of diverse cultures, histories and ethnicities come together to find solutions to the common economic and social challenges they face living in Britain today. The Award they receive won is the equivalent of the MBE for volunteering.
