VJ Day 75 in Farnham
Hosted by Farnham’s Branch of the Royal British Legion, VJ Day 75 was commemorated in Farnham at the War Memorial in Gostrey Meadow on Saturday 15th August 2020.
Led by RBL Chairman Mr Roger Brown, the event commenced with a poignant reading by the Mayor of Farnham, Councillor Pat Evans, a 2 minutes’ silence and laying of wreaths in remembrance of those who lost their lives in the Far East, and concluded with Brigadier Roger Hood QVRM, TD, DL reciting the Kohima epitaph. The playing of the pipes by Hamish Robertson, whose father fought at Kohima, added to the occasion along with The Last Post and Reveille by bugler Graeme Verroken.
Brigadier Hood QVRM TD DL said “The Farnham civic team with the RBL, yet again, created the perfect blend of ceremony, remembrance and friendliness quite characteristic of your activities. I was delighted to represent the Lord Lieutenant and be prt of VJ Day 75 with you.”
