Local Air Ambulance Flying High With Outstanding Service
Through careful planning Air Ambulance Kent Surrey Sussex (KSS) has maintained a full service throughout the Coronavirus crisis, responding to the sickest or most critically injured within the region. Not a single shift has been missed despite higher than average staff absences. They have worked closely with SECAmb and other NHS partners to support the transfer of critically ill Coronavirus patients between hospitals. They have also worked with the Civil Aviation Authority to adapt their helicopters to ensure the safety of all crew members. All of this has involved increased expenditure on staff resources and specialist medical equipment and necessitated the launch of an emergency appeal which received the valued endorsement of Dame Penelope Keith DBE DL. They are very grateful for the considerable public support they have received including the donation of PPE from local businesses and community groups and for the 20 visors made by a former patient. In March 2020 KSS was rated Outstanding by the Care Quality Commission for all five lines of enquiry.
