Lord-Lieutenant supports Surrey school scrubs effort

Oxted School was delighted to welcome HM Lord-Lieutenant of Surrey, Mr Michael More-Molyneux on Wednesday 10 June when he made a visit to it’s Design Technology Department whilst following social distancing guidelines.  Emma Wicks, Head of Design Technology and Bex Shorey,  Enrichment Co-ordinator and Communications Administration Assistant, showed Mr More-Molyneux the variety of PPE that includes 106 scrubs, 1,736 facemasks and 370 headbands that the school has worked tirelessly to produce throughout the lockdown.  A total of about 20 staff had helped overall but Emma and Bex have been at the frontline of pulling all the items together and then delivering them to local care homes, doctors surgeries, dental practices, medical centres, hospitals and Covid-19 testing hubs.

During the visit the Lord- lieutenant helped to cut out some of the scrubs that they are currently making and learnt how the staff volunteers had grown the PPE production from something small at the beginning back in March, to a much bigger production of PPE following donations of material and other items from Oxted Kitchen and Bathrooms, Oxted Rotary Chef, St Silvan’s Area Charity, The Charles Lewis Foundation and Holland Sports Association.  The local donations to make the PPE, and the very special visit by HM Lord- Lieutenant of Surrey, have built a real sense of community and given a very positive focus at this challenging time.
