Lord-Lieutenant volunteers with Nourish our Nurses
On Tuesday 6th April, the Lord-Lieutenant, accompanied by Jo-Ann Airikkala and Joanne Cheetham from Nourish our Nurses visited Ashford St Peter’s Hospital to deliver some healthy food boxes for staff. Mr Michael More-Molyneux, said “What a privilege it is to be at St Peter’s today to say thank you to the heroic staff who have done so much for all of us. I was thrilled to hear that there are no patients with covid in your ITU department today”. Nourish our Nurses have raised over £70k during the past 12 months, to pay for boxes of fresh fruit, vegetables, pasta and hand cream, with each box being packed by a wonderful team of volunteers. Part of the donation that funded today’s boxes is from the family of Derek Belmont who passed away with Covid-19 on Aspen Ward a year ago, on 28th March 2020. Jo-Anne Airikkala said “Staff are doing an amazing job, and even though we are heading back to some type of normality, just receiving a box of goodies lets staff know someone cares for them.” Louise McKenzie, Director of Workforce Transformation said “Staff are exhausted and so very grateful to Nourish our Nurses, especially with the healthy option – being able to go home and cook healthy food is really important for their wellbeing.” Louise also thanked Heather Bixley – Staff engagement officer, Andy Hyatt – Transport manager and all of the colleagues who help to transfer the food boxes to our wards and departments. |
