‘The vital role of the volunteer’
As Volunteers’ Week drew to a close on 8th June, Surrey’s Lord-Lieutenant echoed the words from HM The Queen, in which she signalled that “it is inspiring to reflect on the many thousands of people, who through their acts of generosity and kindness, have achieved so much for the greater good”. Acknowledging the exceptional work of volunteers across this county, he highlighted that the Instagram and Twitter feeds sharing Her Majesty’s message worldwide also included three inspiring stories from Surrey. Members of the Royal Family were shown on private visits in support of volunteer groups and organisations at The Shah Jahan Mosque, The Orpheus Centre and The Lighthouse Woking. “The thousands of volunteers who do such extraordinary work in caring for our Surrey communities – at all times and not just in the current coronavirus crisis – are an inspiration to us all,” he said.
